Tissot was founded in 1853 in Le Locle, Switzerland, by Charles-Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Émile, who turned the lower floors of the family home into a small watchmaking workshop and produced over 1,000 pocket watches in their first year alone. In 1858, Charles-Émile travelled to Russia, establishing Tissot among the aristocracy and the Tsar's own court — an early example of the brand's international ambition. Tissot went on to build a reputation for genuine firsts: one of the earliest series-produced dual-time-zone pocket watches, the first anti-magnetic watch in the 1930s, the Astrolon plastic-movement watch of the 1970s, and the touch-sensitive T-Touch decades later. Tissot merged with Omega in 1930 and has been part of the Swatch Group since 1983.
