Pierre Kunz, born in Bern in 1959, trained as a watchmaker at the Vallée de Joux watchmaking school before building complications — repeaters, perpetual calendars, single-button chronographs — for Victorin Piguet and, later, the Franck Muller Group. His designs impressed Franck Muller and Vartan Sirmakes enough that they offered him the chance to launch his own eponymous brand within the group in 2002, based at the celebrated Watchland complex in Genthod, overlooking Lake Geneva. Kunz built the brand around a signature he made uniquely his own: retrograde displays, often combined two or three at a time with open dials, tourbillons and oversized Roman numerals, in cases with distinctly architectural, asymmetric shapes.
Pierre Kunz has not been producing watches at scale for some years, which makes existing pieces genuinely scarce on the market.
