Bovet traces its origins to 1822, when Édouard Bovet established the company in London to produce pocket watches for the Chinese market, while his brothers managed manufacturing from Fleurier, Switzerland. Bovet pocket watches became prized possessions among Chinese emperors and nobility throughout the 19th century, known for elaborate enamel work and exhibition casebacks that revealed the decorated movement inside — a technique Bovet is credited with pioneering. The brand faded through much of the 20th century before being acquired in 2001 by Pascal Raffy, who rebuilt in-house production in Fleurier and, in 2013, renamed the house Bovet 1822 in tribute to its founding year.
