Doxa was founded in 1889 in Le Locle, Switzerland, by 21-year-old Georges Ducommun — the brand's name comes from the Greek word for "glory." After decades producing dress watches and patented movements, Doxa turned its attention to diving in the 1960s, working with oceanographer Jacques Cousteau and testing underwater colour visibility in Lake Neuchâtel with diving pioneer Claude Wesly. The result, launched at Baselworld in 1967, was the SUB 300: the first commercially available diver's watch with the now-iconic orange dial, chosen specifically for its visibility underwater, and one of the first watches ever fitted with a helium escape valve — a feature Doxa introduced before Rolex.

Financing is available on selected pre-owned Doxa references for clients based in Switzerland, with terms from 3 to 24 months, no interest and no administrative fees. The full purchase price is divided into equal monthly instalments, with a minimum first payment of 25%.
