Romain Jerome was founded in Geneva in 2004, initially producing a novelty golf-score counter before finding its true identity in 2007 with the launch of the Titanic-DNA collection under designer Yvan Arpa, formerly managing director at Hublot. The concept, "DNA of Famous Legends," was unlike anything else in watchmaking: each Titanic-DNA bezel was cast from rusted steel genuinely recovered from the wreck of the RMS Titanic, fused with Lloyds Grade A steel supplied by Harland & Wolff, the Belfast shipyard that built the ship, with a limited run of 2,012 pieces marking the vessel's centenary. The brand expanded the concept with materials tied to other historical events — lunar dust in the Moon-DNA line, volcanic ash from Eyjafjallajökull — building a genuinely singular niche within Swiss watchmaking.
Romain Jerome filed for bankruptcy in February 2020 after its majority investor withdrew financial support. Original Titanic-DNA and Moon-DNA pieces from the brand's 2007–2019 period are today only available on the pre-owned market.

The full purchase price is divided into equal monthly instalments, with a minimum first payment of 25%.
